In August 2006 Four Seasons Theatre presented SWEENEY TODD in cooperation with the Wisconsin Union Theater. Featuring Lori Poulson as Mrs. Lovett, Rick Henslin as Sweeney, and Telly Leung as Tobias Ragg, the FST production of this Sondheim classic garnered national press with an article in the Sondheim Review and on Playbill.com.
Our Summer 2006 Backstage Arts Internship Program provided exposure to technical theater careers as students learned about the production process from design to final product. Supervised student interns worked with theatre professionals who served as educational faculty and production staff for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. The internship program was supported by the Wisconsin Union Theater's Jean C. Hodgin Fund. Jean Hodgin, a former Technical Director at the Wisconsin Union Theater, established this gift to provide assistance to help train students in theatre arts.
The two-part Sweeney Todd Lecture Series included "Sweeney Todd: Musical or Opera," with FST Artistic Director Andrew Abrams and Madison Opera General Manager Allan Naplan and an overview of "The Music of Sondheim" by Jim Tucker, Director of Opera at Northern Illinois University.
Grant funding for this production was provided by the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission with funding from the Overture Foundation and the Pleasant Rowland Foundation, as well as the Madison Arts Commission with funding from the Wisconsin Arts Board.
